PV Shield does require that Project Visitor run with administrator privileges. This is so that it can protect Project Visitor from various methods of hacking the client, network connection, and memory of Project Visitor as it runs. If you have any issues when trying to run Project Visitor please email our technical advisor themartian@projectvisitor.com. ======================================================================= PV Forums ======================================================================= For information, dicussions, help, etc please create an account over at http://www.pvforums.com There is also a private customer support section on the forums where you can get help privately with our technical advisor. ======================================================================= KNOWN ISSUES: ======================================================================= *Chat messages seem to slow the game, or the game seems to get slower as your playing. Make sure if your running dual monitors, or a video card that supports dual monitors, that the second monitor is not active (use display settings in windows to turn off) PV does not support dual monitors and will cause lots of slow downs and loss of frame rate if your try to run the game with a second monitor active. DirectX ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You must be sure to have at least DirectX 9 installed on your system(or later) You should also be sure to have the latest video drivers installed for your video card. You can download the latest version of DirectX for free directly from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp Please contact your video card vendor for the latest drivers. Browser file not found on startup ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *This is usually a browser cache problem. Close all browser windows. Open the control panel->Internet options-> delete temporary files. Open a new browser window and try launching the game again. Authentication Failed when game starts up ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sometimes this is a web server caching problem and it gave you an outdated login ticket. Just relaunch the game from the web site again. If the Project Visitor patcher crashes on startup ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * Get the latest installer from ProjectVisitor.com. If Project Visitor crashes at startup ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * An invalid Page Fault may mean your DirectX is out of date. Please confirm that you have DirectX9 or later installed on your system. * A message stating 'Dinput.dll was not found' may mean you do not have DirectX installed on your system. Please confirm that you have DirectX8.1 or later installed on your system. * Please be sure that you have the latest video drivers installed on your system that support DirectX9. it is always a good idea to visit your video card manufacturers web site for the latest available video drivers. Many new systems are DirectX11 or higher and no longer include support for DX9, the installer is available on the website to fix that. Different versions of DirectX can be installed at the same time without adversely impacted other applications. Windows 10 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When using the main Windows 10 installation that runs the game full screen, sometimes on some systems it will just crash immediately. To fix, locate the ProjectVisitor.exe file in the installation directory and right-click the exe, then set the compatibility to windows 7. Relaunch the game and it should work fine. If you have trouble with the primary Windows 10 installer, try the second Windows 8/10 installer. It uses a tool called dgvoodoo that runs the game in a window and is usually successful. The windows 10 only installer is preferrable though as it is fullscreen and a higher frame rate. Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 8.1 does not have strong backwards compatibility support and as a result you can install and run Project Visitor but your frame rate will be very poor. We do not have a work around available at this time. Other Issues ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * The PV help pages can be viewed offline with your web browser. These files can be viewed easily with Microsoft's Internet Explorer. However, Netscape may have trouble viewing the images. The images are bitmaps, and may not be compatible with Netscape. You will still be able to read the text, but you may need to use I.E. if you want to view the images. This issue is only related to viewing help files while offline. I.E. is required to play Project Visitor. Known Video Card Issues: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **If you change your video card on your PC, want to change your rendering mode, you will need to delete your videosetup.cfg file located in your PV folder. Your Windows Start Menu will have a Shortcut to 'Reset your Video Defaults' under the PV Start Menu group. Running this will allow you to choose a new video card for PV.** If you are getting a lot of lockups and you have the latest DirectX (especially DX9) We have found a very common and effective solution. *Locate your sound properties in the control panel, go to advanced. *Turn the sound card hardware acceleration all the way down. (you wont really hear and sound difference) But it has been none to fix many lockups.
